How to Wash and Store Satin Nightwear So It Lasts

Protecting Your Investment

Satin nightwear has a beautiful drape and sheen that's worth protecting. With a few simple habits, you can keep your pieces looking as good as the day you bought them.

Washing

Always check the care label first, as satin can be made from different fibres. As a general rule, wash satin on a cold, gentle cycle inside a mesh laundry bag, or hand wash in cool water with a mild detergent. Avoid fabric softener, which can affect the fabric's natural sheen over time.

Drying

Never tumble dry satin. Instead, gently squeeze out excess water without wringing, then lay the garment flat on a towel or hang it away from direct sunlight to air dry. Direct heat and sun exposure can cause fading and weaken the fibres.

Ironing

If needed, iron on a low, cool setting with the garment inside out, or use a pressing cloth to protect the surface from direct heat.

Storage

Fold satin pieces rather than hanging them on hangers with hard edges, which can create shoulder marks over time. Store in a cool, dry drawer away from direct sunlight, and avoid overcrowding to prevent creasing.
